On Sunday, I decided to go to the Proper Cloth sample sale. I didn't advertise it. Sorry about that everybody. I figured it was the last day; maybe I'll scoop up some deals. I tried a bunch of shirts, only one fit. And then I decided to go through a whole bunch of pants.
I put the hangers in the reverse direction on the end of a rod, with me standing right there, going through them for the purpose of purging. A guy who came up to around my belly button started going through the pants, and I politely told him, “Hey, hey, hey. As you can see, these hangers are in a different direction. These are mine, and I'm going through them." He gave me a glance, and then he walked away, not before looking at another guy, jerking his head in my direction and laughing. And then I simply yelled to him, “I'm just trying to save you time and help you out!”
But here's the point, folks. If you come up to my belly button, why would you be looking at my pants? They don't fit you. Our inseams couldn't be any more different.
Results? I end up getting one dress shrit (blue and white gingham) and one pair of khakis: slate blue.
PRO TIP: Know your dimensions, guys. It could save you some time.
A SINGULAR TAKE ON FASHION
Denim Soldier
By Jonathan: ETHOS DECORUM
Hi, this is Jonathan from ETHOS DECORUM, a creative outlet that highlights the best in art, fashion and design. I feature a lot of fashion on Instagram, but for Fall I have personally been wearing one thing nonstop and it’s not a trendy item.
What’s the latest trend in menswear or fashion this Fall? A pink turtleneck or a grey hunting vest? I am a little over the top with that question, but you get the point. For me it is a denim jacket, a non-trend item. With trends going and coming this Fall, I have worn my denim jacket nonstop. It just a no brainer, it’s a wardrobe staple.

A Wardrobe Staple
The denim jacket is more than just a passing trend; it's a timeless classic that deserves a place in everyone’s wardrobe. Over the decades, it has proven its worth, evolving with fashion without ever losing its unique charm. Here’s why the denim jacket has achieved iconic status and how it can elevate any wardrobe without relying on trends. For me it just makes dressing up easy.

1. Versatility
A denim jacket can be dressed up or down, layered, or worn on its own. It pairs perfectly with a wide range of outfits, from khakis to hoodies. Unlike other outerwear pieces, it can suit almost any style—casual, smart-casual, edgy, or even professional (with a shirt and tie). I have not worn a shirt and tie in a minute but that’s a different story.
The jacket’s adaptable look makes it ideal for virtually every season but it’s special in the fall. It can be layered with sweaters and scarves. No matter the occasion or the season, there’s always a place for a denim jacket.

2. A Timelessly Cool Aesthetic
Denim jackets are simply cool and timeless. The design has remained largely unchanged over the years, which is a testament to its classic appeal. It's not driven by fast-changing trends, making it immune to the fickleness of fashion. Instead, it holds a permanent place in the style lexicon—just as relevant today as it was in the '70s, '80s, and '90s.
For me, I rock it with all my new and vintage t-shirts and ripped jacket a lot this Fall. I am mostly just changing out my footwear.

3. An Expression of Individuality
One of the best parts about denim is that it becomes uniquely yours over time. The more you wear it, the more character it develops, and no two denim jackets age the same way. As a vintage collector, I simply like old things and that is what excites me about vintage. Many people personalize their denim jackets with patches, pins, or embroidery, and that is also something that other clothing items are unable to do.

4. Function and Durability
The denim jacket isn't just stylish; it’s functional, too. Made from durable denim, it can withstand a lot of wear and tear. The rugged nature of the fabric makes it ideal for any casual outing. And because denim is resistant to wrinkles and damage, a well-made denim jacket can last you for years—even decades—making it a worthwhile investment.
It also provides the perfect level of warmth when a heavy coat is too much, but a light sweater isn’t enough. This balance makes it a great in-between piece for transitional weather like from fall to winter.
Free yourself from the pressure of trends, just go with a staple. It doesn’t have to be a denim jacket but just find something that isn’t a hassle, and you don’t have to overthink. There is nothing wrong with trying trends, but you can always fall back on a staple like the denim jacket.
